It seems everyone has an opinion on who President Elect Trump should pick to be in his cabinet, World Energy recently visited with Jeff Johnson, CEO of EPUS Global Energy and got his opinion on Energy, Interior, and EPA. Of course Harold Ham was at the top of the list, and Jeff shares his personal experiences with him. For the Interior we talk a little bit about Sara Palin, former Governor of Alaska. Other names that make Jeff’s short list are former Governor Rick Perry and of course, T. Boone Pickens. Jeff also shares what he feels the priorities ought to be when looking at these departments. As President Elect Trump moves toward Washington his promise to “drain the swamp” is making a lot of Democrats and establishment Republicans nervous, but for those in the oil and gas space, currently producing this is a very important step.
Jeff has been in the oil business since 1988 and lived through several different administrations and has had to deal with these agencies at all levels. His current business is once again in the thick of it, buying oil and gas production, so he has some advice for this administration.
“Push as much of the regulation to the local level as possible, level the playing field when it comes to energy production by equalizing the tax code, and set some longer term goals than trying to fund today’s shinny new toy” Jeff Johnson, CEO of EPUS Global Energy. “Of late, the Department of Energy has really become it’s own Energy Investment Fund, and it was never intended to play that role.”
While picking the next Secretary of State is very important, think XL Pipeline, the agencies that will decide what we do as a country on Energy are the Department of the Interior, the EPA, Homeland Security and of course the Department of Energy. While those picks may be on the back burner for the President Elect they will do more to further our economy and influence job creation than the State Department.
